LUMUT: Perak-born students from families with a monthly household income of RM5,000 and below are eligible to receive bursaries from the Perak Foundation to further their studies.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said previously, the bursaries were only given to students from families with a household income of less than RM3,000 but the income limit was raised to RM5,000 last month.
"The bursaries for further studies are RM300 for certificate level, RM500 for diploma and RM800 for bachelor's degree.
"However, for a bachelor's degree in the professional fields, students from families with a household income of below RM3,000 are eligible to receive a bursary of RM1,200, and RM1,000 for those from families with a household income of RM5,000 and below."
He said this after handing-out National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) advance loan payments to 133 recipients in the Lumut parliamentary constituency, here today.
Zambry said the bursary programme for the Perak-born who were offered places at public tertiary institutions including education colleges had been implemented since eight years ago with improvements made from time to time.
He said each year, the state government allocated RM53 million for education, with RM11 million of it for Perak Foundation bursaries. — Bernama
