PUTRAJAYA: The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry has requested for an allocation of RM10 million from Budget 2018 to promote breast cancer awareness.
Its minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abd Karim said the amount was needed to provide breast cancer patients with prosthesis and for awareness programmes.
Rohani said the ministry has submitted its request to the Finance Ministry.
However, mammograms that are subsidised by the ministry will not come under this additional fund.
"We need a lot more to be able to provide more mammograms. It is important for women to get a mammogram. It allows early detection, and that helps," she said during a press conference at her ministry today.
Earlier, she launched the Pink Wig-a-ton, a breast cancer awareness run to raise more funds for the cause.
The run is organised by the Pink Ribbon Wellness Foundation, which seeks to fight breast cancer through a commitment to educate and empower women on breast healthcare and support for survivors.
