Senators pleased with Malaysia's KL2017 contingent's achievements

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian contingent leading in the gold medal haul thus far at the 29th SEA Games here (KL2017) has drawn the attention of the Dewan Negara which praised them on their achievements.
Senate deputy president, Datuk Seri Abdul Halim Abd Samad today congratulated the national contingent for their wins at the biennial games.
"Congratulations to the national contingent! Already 16 gold medals won (up to this morning). Hopefully, this will continue with more golds won," he said before starting the day's Dewan Negara sitting, here.
Abdul Halim also congratulated the Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin who led the Malaysian equestrian team to two gold medals and a silver in the endurance race yesterday.
He said the achievement had brought much pride to the nation as the Sultan not only won a gold in the individual event but also broke the Games record.
Sultan Mizan reached the finishing line in the 80km race with a time of three hours, 48 minutes and 38 seconds, erasing the previous record of six hours, 26 minutes and four seconds held by Malaysia's gold medallist, Sulaiman Muda, at the 2013 SEA Games in Myanmar.
By noon today, Malaysia has collected 17 gold medals.
The KL2017 runs from Aug 19 to 30. — Bernama
