Singapore bag two table tennis doubles gold medals

KUALA LUMPUR: Singapore table tennis squad began their campaign in the 2017 SEA Games by winning two of three gold medals contested on the first day of competition for the sports.
Singapore grabbed the women's and men''s doubles gold after their teams monopolised all the final spots.
Their womens' doubles pair of Feng Tian Wei and Yu Mengyu beat compatriots Lin Ye and Zhou Yihan 3-2 (11-8, 11-9, 11-13, 9-11 and 6-11 ), while their men's doubles pair of Gao Ning and Pang Xue Jie defeated another Singapore pair Chew Zhe Yu Clarence and Poh Shao Feng Ethan 3-1 (11-4, 11-9, 7-11 and 11-6) at the Malaysian International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec).
Indonesia and Vietnam shared the women's double's bronze medal while Indonesia and Thailand shared the men's bronze medal.
Earlier Singapore failed to defend their gold medal in the mixed doubles after Pang Xue Jie and Yu Mengyu lost 1-3 (11-7, 9-11, 6-11 and 8-11) to Thailand's Padasak Tanviriyavechakul and Suthasini Sawettabut.
Singapore and Vietnam shared the bronze medal for this event. — Bernama
