Two unemployed men freed of drug charges

JOHOR BARU: The High Court today acquitted and discharged two unemployed men after they were found not guilty on two counts of trafficking three types of drugs two years ago.
Judge Datuk Teo Say Eng handed down the decision after the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case against Nordin Ahmad, 47, and Liaw Bong Heng, 56, at the end of the prosecution case.
Teo said there were several inconsistencies and doubts over the facts of the case, among them the time the drugs were obtained, evidence given by three witnesses, and no chemistry report being submitted.
The two men were charged with trafficking 149.58g of heroin and monoacetylmorphine in a house in Kayu Ara Pasong, Pontian, at 4.45pm on Oct 9, 2015.
They were also charged with trafficking methamphetamine drugs weighing 70.08g at the same place and time.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Fithril Hakim Ab Jalil while Nordin was represented by counsel Chuah Shyue Chien and lawyers Mohd Fazaly Ali Mohd Ghazali, Arif Aizuddin Masron and Ahmad Yusri Ahmad Fuad represented Liaw. — Bernama
