Beware of bogus agents: PR1MA

PETALING JAYA: Don't fall for bogus 1Malaysia People's Housing (PR1MA) agents who claim to be able to secure a unit of the affordable housing for a fee.
Bona fide PR1MA agents do not charge any fee for their services, Perbadanan PR1MA Malaysia said, adding that the public can visit its website for the list of real estate agents appointed by PR1MA Malaysia to help handle the sales of PR1MA homes.
PR1MA Malaysia told Nanyang Siang Pau in a report published today that real estate agents appointed as PR1MA agents are not allowed to charge any fee.
They are entrusted to deal with the sales of PR1MA homes including applicants' loan applications, it said.
"We have indeed started to appoint real estate agents throughout the country to help market PR1MA homes, but any 'agents' who ask for registration or processing fees from applicants must be bogus," it said.
On reports of individuals claiming to be agents in online portals and cases of applicants being fleeced by bogus agents who asked for a fee in return for securing these affordable homes, PR1MA Malaysia stressed that it has never imposed any registration or processing fees.
The daily said it had received complaints from readers that some "agents" have promoted PR1MA homes on their Facebook pages and asked for RM500 in return for securing a unit during balloting.
