GEORGE TOWN: Makkal Sakti Party is urging the authorities to investigate the developer who allegedly wants to evict the Kampung Kastam residents without compensation, to make way for a housing project in the area.
Its president Datuk Seri R. S. Thanenthiran, who represented the villagers, said the move was akin to persecution of the villagers who had been living in the village for the past 70 years.
Therefore, Makkal Sakti together with the Kampung Kastam Residents Action Committee lodged a police report at the Northeast district police headquarters (IPD), here, today, urging the authorities to initiate investigation into the matter.
Thanenthiran, together with 100 villagers gathered peacefully at the IPD to protest the action of the developer who wants to demolish the homes of about 35 families in the area.
"The villagers are aware that they are legally bound to make way for the development. However, the developer needs to show some compassion by compensating or providing new homes for them," he told reporters after lodging the police report.
He also urged Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to intervene and help solve the problem faced by Kampung Kastam residents to prove that DAP was truly practising efficient, accountable and transparent (CAT) administration. — Bernama
