PETALING JAYA: Perisai Petroleum Teknologi Bhd's sub-subsidiary Perisai Drilling Sdn Bhd (PDSB) has been served with a notice of demand from Konsortium Pelabuhan Kemaman Sdn Bhd (KPKSB), Pangkalan Bekalan Kemaman Sdn Bhd (PBKSB) and EPIC Mushtari Engineering Sdn Bhd claiming a sum of RM13.68 million.
According to a letter of offer dated Aug 1, 2016, EPIC agreed to offer PDSB its facilities, including berthing space for its rig namely, Perisai Pacific 101 within the Kemaman Port.
Perisai said the notice of demand alleges that as a result of PDSB's failure to moor the Rig on Sept 5, 2016, the rig broke free of the moorings, drifted off and came into contact with a mobile offshore unit, namely Naga 4 and subsequently, the rig continued drifting and collided with Berth 6 and 7 respectively, which are owned by PBKSB.
"The notice further alleges that as a result of the collision, the finger jetty, Berth 6 and 7 and quay wall/wharf of Pangkalan Bekalan Kemaman were damaged," it noted.
On Sept 6, 2016, KPKSB made arrangements for tug boats to be mobilised and sent to the East Wharf to retrieve the rig, which was subsequently secured to the West Wharf by employees of KPKSB.
PDSB has within seven days from Aug 22, 2017 to pay the RM13.68 million sum, failing which the claimants would commence legal proceeding against PDSB without further notice.
Perisai said the notice will not have any financial or operational impact on the group and it will seek legal advice on the matter.
"The company had duly notified its insurer regarding the claim," it added.
Its shares were unchanged at 5 sen, with some 2.83 million shares done, giving it a market capitalisation of RM63 million.
