600 Perak soldiers join army Merdeka Run

TAIPING: A total of 600 soldiers from 18 camps in the state are participating in the 296km Army's Merdeka Run in conjunction with the National Day celebrations beginning today until Aug 27.
Second Infantry Division commander Major Gen Datuk Mohd Ramli Jaafar said the run started from Dataran Warisan here to the Sultan Abdul Aziz recreational park in Ipoh, about 95km away.
He said other routes were from Ipoh to Tapah Jamek Mosque and from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) to Hutan Lipur Kanching in Selangor.
"Each route involves 50 to 60 runners who will bring 59 Jalur Gemilang to be handed over in Kuala Lumpur later," he told reporters after a flag handing over ceremony at Dataran Warisan here.
The run involves three zones namely eastern, northern and southern with a total distance of 1,413km.
It started on Aug 18 in Kuantan, Pahang. — Bernama
