GEORGE TOWN: A scuffle broke out between representatives from a developer and Department Of Director General Of Lands And Mines (JKPTG), and residents of retired custom personnel during a demolition exercise at Jalan Kampung Kastam today.
Police were forced to intervene when a scuffle broke out, to calm the situation.
It was believed that the residents were against the demolition exercise, although they had been given a two week notice earlier.
"We need more time, don't demolish the quarters yet", said one of the residents.
About 100 people gathered at Jalan Kampung Kastam to protest the demolition exercise conducted by the department.
The 7.2ha land currently will be used for the development of over 320 units of affordable housing under the 1Malaysia People's Housing (PR1MA) Plan.
At the time of writing, JKPTG proceeded with the scheduled demolition exercise.
