PUTRAJAYA: Six companies are vying to be the master developer for the Bandar Malaysia project.
Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah (pix) said the finance ministry will wait until until the end of the month for the companies to submit their proposal.
"They have expressed their interest. We took them for a site visit and they need to submit (the proposal) by the end of this month.
"Six companies have visited us, so we don't know how many are going to submit (their proposal) by the end of this month," Irwan said during a press conference after he launched the 2017 Volunteering for International Professionals (VIP2017) held at the ministry here.
Irwan was asked to respond on how many companies were shortlisted to be the master developer for Bandar Malaysia.
In June this year, the government has opened the request for proposal (RFP) to select a master developer for Bandar Malaysia.
The selected candidate must be a Fortune 500 company; have a cumulative revenue over three years of RM50 billion from the entire value chain of real estate and associated business; and have experience in international real estate development projects.
Bandar Malaysia sits on prime real estate in Sungai Besi at the edge of downtown Kuala Lumpur.
Its size of 196.7ha is five times the area of the iconic Kuala Lumpur City Centre project, together with its large park.
Meanwhile, commenting on VIP2017, Irwan said the programme aims to evoke a long-term social change in society and has expanded its wing to other South East Asian countries- Indonesia, Philippines and Cambodia.
The four-month programme enables professionals throughout the world to contribute in 10 social impact projects.
Twenty Malaysian Fellows and 30 international Fellows from 20 countries have been selected to participate in the programme.
Their expertise will be deployed in 10 host organisations (5 in Peninsular Malaysia, one each in Sabah, Sarawak, Cambodia, Indonesia and Philippines).
The impact projects range from providing job opportunities for underprivileged youth, to capacity building and livelihood creation for recovering drug addicts and HIV patients.
