SUBANG JAYA: Graduates should be groomed to become holistic individuals who continually innovate themselves to keep in step with global advancements, says Higher Education Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Mary Yap Kain Ching.
She said students should be equipped with industry skill sets, the ability to creatively solve problems and good character to face the different challenges that the 21st century posed.
"The responsibility is now in our hands to develop this generation to sustain the future of our nation. It is vital for educators, parents and corporations to support student growth in a holistic manner.
"When we help students reach their full potential on a clear developmental path, we can help them obtain a life filled with choices and the skills to achieve their goals," she said at the 2017 Taylor's World Class Scholarship (TWCS) ceremony here today.
Yap's speech text was read by Private Higher Institutions Governance Division director, Dr Mohamed Ali Abdul Rahman.
The deputy minister said graduates must not only excel academically but possess critical thinking skills, general knowledge, good values and ethics, leadership abilities as well as soft skills to be productive leaders of tomorrow.
This year, 13 students of Taylor's University have been awarded the TWCS which grants full tuition fees and guarantees three-month internship programmes with a leading partner corporation. — Bernama
