Remains found by Malaysian navy not USS John S. Mccain sailor

SINGAPORE: The remains found by the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) on Aug 22 are not those of a USS John S. McCain sailor, according to the United States Seventh Fleet.
The RMN discovered the remains while searching the area where the guided-missile destroyer collided with a merchant vessel Alnic MC early Monday morning.
"The determination was made following medical examinations of the remains, which will be returned to the Malaysian authorities," it said in its latest update on its website today.
The US Seventh Fleet, the largest of the US Navy's forward ­deployed fleets, said the additional divers from the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit arrived in Singapore to support the search efforts within the ship.
The US Navy said the multinational search efforts continued at sea over an area of approximately 900 square nautical miles around the initial location of the collision.
Indonesian Navy ships joined the search and rescue efforts this morning with Barakuda, Pulau Rusa, Cucut, and one NV 409 helicopter approaching the area.
A Royal Australian Air Force P-3 maritime patrol aircraft also joined the search efforts.
Assistance from the RMN and Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) continues with RMN ship Leiku and RSN ships Gallant and Fearless.
The US Navy said the four sailors who were injured and flown off the ship to a hospital in Singapore were released yesterday and had returned to the command.
The incident in which five of the warship crew members were injured and 10 missing, would be investigated to determine the facts and circumstances of the collision, it said. — Bernama
