KUALA LUMPUR: Not only does he has the speed, T Anthony Beram, the newly-crowned men’s 200 metre champion in the 29th SEA Games also has the brain.
The 21-year-old Mathematics student of University of Connecticut in the United States is a bright student as he always maintained an impressive 3.90 GPA (grade point average) every semester.
His father, Glen Beram, 47, who is a Mathematics teacher, said has was proud to see his son doing really well in his university, and at the same time managed to excel in sports.
Glen, who came all the way from New York with his wife and two other children, was over the moon after witnessing his son's historic moment at the stadium last night.
"It was the best feeling in my life other than his birth.

"I wish my parents were here too because they wished that my son would become a great runner someday. Today, their dream came true," he told Bernama.
While many expected the new Southeast Asian 100-metre champion, Khairul Hafiz Jantan to win last night, it was T Anthony who made a shock triumph, clocking in 20.84s to bag gold for his country.
Thailand's Jirapong Meenapra came in second place to secure the silver after clocking 21.22s while the host runner, G. Aravin Thevar took third place recording 21.26s followed by Khairul Hafiz in 21.28s.
When asked to comment about T Anthony's involvement in athletics, he said his son was initially into baseball as a centre fielder and he always managed to get the ball before it landed.
"As such, most of his teammates told him to give it a try in track and later on he succeeded in this sports," he said.
He was very optimistic his son would continue his momentum to bring a second gold in the 400m men’s final, slated to be held tonight. — Bernama
