KUALA LUMPUR: Fans at the venues of the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games will definitely not miss the antics and unique costumes of one particular Thai supporter.
Costume designer Sompong Katkaew, 49, said he came to Kuala Lumpur specifically to support the home team and "sell Thailand".
Donned in a unique outfit, he is a hit at whichever venue he goes to and many, fans and athletes alike whether Thais or non-Thais are eager to take "wefies" with him.
"I go to all the venues to support the Thai team, it can be tiring but I am willing to do it. At each venue, we (he and his team) will use different costumes," he told Bernama when met at the National Aquatic Centre in Bukit Jalil.
He said that his initiative received the support of the Thai government which also provided him financial backing.
He said besides the costumes in the like of horses and flags, musical accessories like drums and trumpets were also part of the show.
He added that he and his team had been to Brazil, China and the United Kingdom when those countries hosted big sporting events like the Olympics, Asian Games and Paralympics.
"I want to present and promote my country, Thailand. Like an icon, when people see me they will know I am from Thailand. I enjoy doing this kind of activity," he said. — Bernama
