What we know about the Samsung Note 8 (Video)

IN an event held in New York last night, Samsung Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. officially introduces the Galaxy Note 8, the highly anticipated stylus centric Android smartphone.
High off the bat, DJ Koh, president of Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics addressed the Samsung Note 7 incident before talking about the Note 8.
“We appreciate the relentless passion of the Note community. They’ve been a constant inspiration to us, and we designed the new Note for them,” said DJ Koh. “From the Infinity Display to the enhanced S Pen and a powerful Dual Camera, the Galaxy Note8 lets people do things they never thought were possible.”
From the presentation, here is what we know about the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.
The Galaxy Note8 has the biggest screen on a Note device, at 6.3-inch across. The panel is said to be a Quad HD+ Super AMOLED Infinity Display.
The phone will be able to multitask and take advantage of its large screen with the Multi Window Feature. The new App Pair feature lets you create a custom pair of apps on the Edge Panel and simultaneously launch two apps at the same time.
Of course, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is equipped with its signature S Pen. Now the stylus has a finer tip, improved pressure sensitivity, and more features that enable users to express themselves.
Samsung’s Always On Display allows Galaxy users to monitor notifications without unlocking their phone. With the Galaxy Note8, the addition of Screen off memo allows you to take up to one-hundred pages of notes as soon as you remove the S Pen, pin notes to the Always On Display and make edits directly from the Always On Display. All without unlocking your phone.
Also introduced is the improved S Pen Translate feature lets you hover over text to quickly translate not only individual words, but entire sentences in up to 71 languages, and instantly convert units and foreign currencies.
The Galaxy Note8 is the first smartphone with two 12MP rear cameras with Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) on both its the wide-angle and telephoto lenses. With the cameras, the Live Focus feature lets you control the depth of field by allowing you to adjust the bokeh effect in preview mode and after you take the photo.
In Dual Capture mode, both rear cameras take two pictures simultaneously and allow you to save one close-up shot from the telephoto lens and one wide-angle shot at the same time.
The wide-angle lens has a Dual Pixel sensor with rapid Auto Focus so that you can capture sharper, clearer shots in low-light environments.
However, the front camera is an 8MP shooter with Smart Auto Focus.
Other notable features of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 includes water and dust resistance rating of IP68, fast wireless charging, Samsung Knox for security, and Samsung DeX for a desktop experience.
For its brains, the Samsung Galaxy NOte 8 comes with a few options. Its processor could either bee an octa core (2.3GHz Quad + 1.7GHz Quad), 64bit, 10nm processor; or an Octa core (2.35GHz Quad + 1.9GHz Quad), 64bit, 10nm processor.
All models will come with 6GB of memory but a choice between 64GB, 128GB, or 256GB of expandable storage. Also, there is an option between one Nano SIM and one MicroSD slot or one Nano SIM and one Nano SIM or one MicroSD slot.
These configurations differ based on market and mobile operator
Powering it all is a 3,300mAh battery.
The Galaxy Note8 will be available starting in mid-September and will be offered in Midnight Black, Orchid Gray, Maple Gold, and Deepsea Blue.
According to Samsung Malaysia Electronics, the Galaxy Note8 will be available for pre-order from Sep 5 to 10 complete with a special pre-order packages. The official Malaysian price for the phone and the special pre-order packages are still unannounced.
