Datasonic Q1 profit drops 27.2% on lower sales

    PETALING JAYA: Datasonic Group Bhd reported a 27.2% decline in net profit to RM15.12 million for the first quarter ended June 30, 2017 versus RM20.79 million in the same quarter a year ago, due to lesser deliveries of smart cards, consumables, passports and personalisation services.
    Revenue was also down by 21% from RM76.08 million to RM60.1 million.
    The group has proposed to declare an interim dividend of 1 sen per share for the quarter under review.
    Datasonic told Bursa Malaysia that barring any unforeseen circumstances, the group's growth prospects are expected to be satisfactory in the financial year ending March 31, 2018.
    At 12.30pm, its shares rose one sen to RM1.11, with some 394,900 shares changing hands, giving it a market capitalisation of RM1.5 billion.
