MACC warns slanderers (Updated)

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) warned today that it would not hesitate to take stern action on those who disrupt and make public comments on graft cases that are being investigated by the commission.
MACC chief commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad said such comments made by either individuals or groups could jeopardise the smooth flow of investigations on a case.
"We notice this has become a trend or a common practice these days and we wish to advise those behind it to refrain from doing so as it can disrupt and affect the flow of investigations. If they have any information which can help in the investigations then please come forward and speak to the commission and not chose to make media statements instead." he said.
Dzulkifli added there are also certain quarters who are trying to tarnish the image and reputation of the MACC by making seditious and defamatory comments on the duties and action carried out by the commission.
"We also view this seriously and will not compromise with such doings. We are prepared to take lawful action including civil suits against those found to slander the commission." he said.
Dzulkifli said under Section 48(h) of the MACC Act 2009, it is an offence for any individual or party that threatens, harasses or attempts to abduct an individual who is under investigations by the commission .
He said those found guilty can face up to two years imprisonment and a fine of up to RM10,000.
