PDRM to send officer to question Malaysian drug smugglers caught in Thailand

SEREMBAN: The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) will send an official to Thailand soon to obtain information on two Malaysians detained in Sadao, Songkhla last Tuesday for allegedly trying to smuggle 200kg of syabu into Malaysia.
Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said sending an official over was part of the standard operating procedure (SOP) when a Malaysian was arrested abroad.
"We will wait for the Thai authorities to complete their investigation and when they are ready, they will inform us and we will send someone over," he told reporters after a working visit to the Negeri Sembilan state police contingent headquarters, here, today.
Khalid was referring to the detention of two Malaysian men recently while trying to smuggle into this country, 200kg of the drug called "Ice", better known as syabu in Malaysia, worth about 400 million Baht (RM50 million).
He said PDRM, meanwhile, would also make an application for the officer to be sent over to be allowed to meet the detained suspects.

"Normally, Thailand will give its cooperation as this is an SOP. It's the same if their citizen is arrested here; we too will share information," he added.
The two Malaysians, aged 49 and 35, were arrested in Sadao, Songkhla after the Thai authorities received information on the attempt to smuggle drugs into neighbouring Malaysia.
The Thai authorities also found seven sacks containing what was believed to be "Ice" in a car driven by one of the suspects while the load of drug was being transferred to a car belonging to the other Malaysian. — Bernama
