PETALING JAYA: Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin was granted an audience by Johor's Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar and Crown Prince Tunku Ismail yesterday following the sultan's challenge for a game of equestrian polo.
Photographs of Khairy bowing while shaking the hands of Sultan Ibrahim and Tunku Ismail were uploaded to the Johor Southern Tigers Facebook page. Khairy appeared to have a discussion with Tunku Ismail in the post.
The royal Johor house had slammed Khairy over Malaysia's win in the SEA Games polo tournament.
Sultan Ibrahim challenged the Malaysian SEA Games polo team, of which Khairy was a member, to a match against the Johor team.
Khairy had earlier warned the public on Twitter against pitting him against the royal family.
"Hopefully there will be no more parties who try to pit me against the Johor royal house. Please be respectful in your comments on social media," Khairy tweeted.
Meanwhile, police are investigating five Facebook users for alleged offensive postings towards members of the Johor royalty over the polo challenge.
Police are investigating the case under of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, where those found guilty could face a maximum fine of RM50,000, a one-year jail sentence or both.
