Millennial generation should unite to maintain country's independence: Azlan

KANGAR: Perlis Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man today reminded the millennial generation to always remember the sacrifices of past leaders in freeing the country from the colonials in pursuit of Independence.
And now, with the country having achieved its independence, he said, they should be grateful and remain united to maintain the situation.
"Tunku Abdul Rahman went to London to negotiate for the country's independence from the British and this showed Malaya made efforts to be freed from the colonials. The Malay, Chinese, and Indian leaders then were united to seek for the (country's) independence," he said when opening the "Jelajah Milenia" programme here today.
The programme, organised by an association named Persatuan Alumni Pemimpin Mahasiswa Aspirasi Malaysia (Aspirasi), was aimed at enhancing understanding among the millennial generation on the country's policies and development plans.
Azlan said as citizens of an independent country, the people got to enjoy the various facilities and development provided by the federal government.
Earlier, Azlan joined about 1,500 students and parents in the "Big Walk Milenia".
"Jelajah Milenia" programme is carried out with the cooperation of the Higher Education Ministry, Education Ministry, Communications and Multimedia Ministry, and the Economic Planning Unit of the Prime Minister's Department, with the support of the Perlis government.
The programme involve activities like "Big Walk Milenia", dialogue, forum and exhibition.
The national-level programme is scheduled to be opened by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak in October. — Bernama
