PETALING JAYA: Malaysia reaffirmed their domination in rhythmic gymnastics when Koi Sie Yan grabbed the hoop gold at the SEA Games today.
Sie Yan put on a sizzling performance, earning a score of 16.000 points to push teammate Amy Kwan Dict Weng into second place with 15.250 points, ensuring a 1-2 finish for Malaysia.
It was Sie Yan's third SEA Games gold. Amy was penalied for making two glaring mistakes in her hoop routine but it was still good enough to win silver.
Sie Yan helped to steer the team to a gold and pocketed the individual all-around on Sunday.
However, Sie Yan's hope for a complete sweep was thwarted after she finished second to teammate Izzah Amzan in the ball apparatus final.
The 16-year-old Izzah grabbed the gold with a score of 15.600 points while Sie Yan settled for silver with 15.050.
