Roads in Penang closed temporarily for Merdeka parade

GEORGE TOWN: Several roads leading to Padang Kota Lama will be temporarily closed in conjunction with the 60th National Day parade this Thursday.
State police chief Datuk Chuah Ghee Lye said certain roads in the vicinity will be diverted or closed starting 7am until 12am for the parade this Thursday.
He, nonetheless, said some roads have also been cordoned off yesterday and today from morning till noon for the parade rehearsal.
"Our officers will also be stationed to control the traffic flow," he added in a statement.
Roads that will be closed are Jalan Pengkalan Weld, Lebuh Pantai, Lebuh Light, Lebuh Penang, Lebuh Bishop, Lebuh King, Jalan Syed Sheh Barakbah, Jalan Padang Kota Lama, Lebuh Farquhar and Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling.
Chuah also advised motorists to plan their journey ahead and avoid using the affected roads to avoid heavy congestion.
