KUALA LUMPUR: The National Day 2017 celebration will be showcased with a difference with the use of technology and LED screens so as to deliver the story and message of the performance and parade clearly to the public.
Communications and Multimedia Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Sharifah Zarah Syed Ahmad said 15 rectangular LED screens, measuring five metres by three metres, would be erected along Jalan Raja Laut for the people to follow the events taking place at Dataran Merdeka, venue of the celebration.
"These screens are being used for the first time to give a different feel to this year's celebration. We also desire to have the Malaysia Book of Records record the largest and longest LED screens at a National Day celebration," she said to Bernama after watching the full dress rehearsal at Dataran Merdeka.
The LED screens of 200m in length and nine-metre width would also be placed around the terraces at Dataran Merdeka to present a combination of the presentation on the field, in the air as well as video and multimedia presentations to provide storytelling with greater impact.
This year, 18,000 people, comprising government servants, security forces personnel, NGO members and schoolchildren, will be involved in the field presentation, parade and aerial display.
Sharifah Zarah also said that she was satisfied with the commitment and optimism showed by the participants in putting up a show which would be ingrained in the minds of all the people in the country.
"The Prime Minister was present today, to see for himself what we had planned and done. He was happy, and I think that is good and a success for everyone who had put in their best effort.
"The content of the show is not something simple, we discussed it for days and nights, we are still improving on it. I can feel the commitment put in to ensure that the National Day celebration this year is really meaningful and something different from previous years," she told Bernama.
Sharifah Zarah also urged the public to turn up in large numbers on Thursday to celebrate National Day.
"We urge everyone to come; before you go back for Raya (Aidiladha falls on Friday), come here first. Let us celebrate our nation's historic day together and return with a burning sense of patriotism," she said.
Meanwhile, the deputy secretary-general (management) in the Prime Minister's Department Normi Nordin said the use of modern technology and LED screens would help show flashbacks of the road to independence in 1957, helping the public, especially the younger generation, to experience the moments better.
"The show will re-enact life in the pre- and post-independence eras, as well as in the era of development during the following years.
"What is important is that we not only celebrate and understand the meaning of independence, we must also remind the younger generation that gaining independence was not easy," Normi said in an interview session on the Selamat Pagi Malaysia programme on TV1. — Bernama
