Thief steals car of helpful motorist at crash site

TANJUNG MALIM: A motorist who pulled over to assist victims involved in a multi-vehicle accident at the Km403.9 of the North-South expressway was taken aback when he saw his car being driven off by an unidentified man today.
The 52-year-old motorist who was driving a Proton Perdana and is an employee of the Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) was trailing a bus belonging to the university at 7.35am when an accident occurred.
A car driven by a 27-year-old woman had crashed into the rear of the UPSI bus that was carrying a group of passengers who are believed to be staff and students.
The impact caused the driver of the bus to lose control of his vehicle, causing it to crash and land on its side.
A Perodua Kelisa driven by a 22-year-old man then tried to avoid hitting the bus and car and ended up crashing into a steel road divider.
Hulu Selangor police chief Supt Lim Bak Phai said today that the Perdana driver had pulled over on seeing the accident and rushed over to assist the victim, leaving the car engine running.
He said while helping the accident victims, he spotted the Perdana which also belongs to UPSI, being driven away by an unidentified man.
Lim said the bus driver, his six passengers and the drivers of the two cars, all who are aged between 22 and 30 suffered minor injuries.
He said apart from investigating the accident, police are also looking for the thief who stole the Perdana.
