Highlights of performances by Malaysian gold medalists

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia have emerged as the overall champions with a total gold medal tally of 145 at the 29th Kuala Lumpur SEA Games (KL2017).
Below are the highlights of Malaysian gold medallists:
Malaysian divers conquered all 13 gold medals contested in the Games.
Hattrick SEA Games gold performance since 2013:
- Muhammad Irfan Shamshuddin, 22, in the men's discus throw.
- Ooi Tze Liang, 23, in the men's synchronized 3m springboard.
- Pandelela Rinong Pamg, 24, in 10m platform.
Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin (Equestrian Endurance Individual) won gold for the country and broke the SEA Games record.
Athletics team made exceptional strides by obtaining eight gold medals compared to only three in the previous SEA Games in Singapore.
Malaysian men's hockey team were champions since 1975 except in 1981, 1985, 1991, 2003, 2005, 2009, and 2011 when the sport was not featured.
Adam Yoong Hanifah, 9, emerged as the youngest gold medallist.
46 year-old Nur Hashimah Ismail, Malaysia's oldest athlete led the lawn bowls team to victory.
Netball team upsets defending champions, Singapore, 50-37 to claim gold.
Rugby 7s team defeated Singapore 22-7 in finals.
National gymnast, 18 year-old Koi Sie Yan bagged four gold medals in rhythmic gymnastics for club, hoop, and individual all round and team event.
Malaysia's world-class athletes:
- World keirin champion, Azizulhasni Awang (two gold).
- Three-time pencak silat world champion.
- Mohd Al-Jufferi Jamar (one gold).
- 10m platform world diving champion.
- Cheong Jun Hoong (one gold).
Khairul Hafiz Jantan crowned as South East Asia's fastest man with a time of 10.34 seconds; Eric Shauwn Cray of the Philippines was second.
Bowling:
- Malaysia bagged seven out of the 11 contested gold medals.
- Shalin Zulkifli obtained her individual 20th SEA Games medal after winning the gold in the women's masters.
Four new sports were held for the first time:
- ice skating; cricket.
- ice hockey.
- figure skating.
