Only 16 work days in September for those not recalled (Updated)
PETALING JAYA: When Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak declared Sept 4 (Monday) a public holiday, he added another day to the already long list of non-working days in September.
There are only 16 work days in September for those who have a five-day work week and are not recalled.
• The first stretch of extended break is from Aug 31 (Thursday) to Sept 4 (Monday).
With Merdeka Day and Hari Raya Haji falling back to back on Aug 31 and Sept 1, workers who are not recalled will only return to work on Tuesday after a four-day break.
• The second long break of the month is from Sept 9 (Saturday) to 11 (Monday).
The birthday of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V is on Sept 9.
• The third long weekend is from Sept 16 (Saturday) to Sept 18 (Monday).
Since Malaysia Day falls on Sept 16 which is a Saturday, there is a replacement holiday on Sept 18.
• The fourth stretch of extended break is from Sept 22 (Friday) to Sept 24 (Sunday)
Awal Muharram is on Sept 22.
Kelantan and Terengganu will also have Sept 2 as an extra day for the Hari Raya Haji celebrations, while the Sarawak Governor's birthday is on Sept 9, which is a public holiday for the state.
For these three states, there are only 15 work days for those who are on a five-day work week.
However, not all companies give their staff a replacement off-day when a public holiday falls on Saturday or Sunday. This only applies to staff of companies that provide replacement off-days on Mondays for public holidays on Saturdays and Sunday.
