Muslims celebrate Aidiladha in the spirit of sacrifice (Updated)

KUALA LUMPUR: Muslims in the country today celebrated Aidiladha in moderation, yet in a lively atmosphere with gratitude and the spirit of sacrifice.
Many of them had returned to their villages and hometowns to celebrate the occasion with family members and relatives.
The celebrations began early this morning with Muslims gathering at mosques for the Aidiladha prayers.
Aidiladha is an auspicious day in Islam where Muslims around the world commemorate the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail in obeying God's command. Muslims slaughter an animal, usually a cow, buffalo or goat, in honour of the sacrifice.
The sacrificial slaughter of cows, buffaloes or goats was carried out in mosques, surau and villages.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V, attended Aidiladha prayers at Masjid Al Sultan Ismail Petra in Kubang Kerian, KELANTAN.
His Majesty arrived at the mosque at 9.10am and performed the prayers along with about 5,000 other worshippers. The prayers were led by Imam Abdul Bari Abdullah. The sermon was delivered by Imam Sabri Abdullah. After the prayers, His Majesty exchanged greetings with the worshippers.
In NEGRI SEMBILAN, the Yang Dipertuan Besar, Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir, and the Tunku Ampuan Besar, Tengku Aishah Rohani Tengku Besar Mahmud, performed the prayers at the Tuanku Munawir Royal Mosque in Seri Menanti, Kuala Pilah.
After the prayers, Tuanku Muhriz visited the royal mausoleum there for a 'tahlil' session led by the Mufti of Negri Sembilan, Datuk Mohd Yusof Ahmad.
His Royal Highness also witnessed the sacrificial slaughter of 20 animals.
In MALACCA, Yang Dipertua Negri Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron joined about 10,000 worshippers for Aidiladha prayers at Masjid Al-Azim in Bukit Palah. The prayers were led by the Grand Imam, Datuk Mohammad Hashim, who also delivered the sermon.
Idris and several state executive councillors and deputy councillors witnessed the sacrificial slaughter of animals at several mosques.
In KEDAH, the Sultanah of Kedah, Tuanku Hajah Haminah, attended Aidiladha prayers at Masjid Zahir in Alor Star, along with about 2,000 worshippers.
The worshippers exchanged greetings with Tuanku Hajah Haminah after the prayers. Her Royal Highness distributed packets of money to children.
In JOHOR BARU, the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, performed Aidiladha prayers along with over 5,000 worshippers at Masjid Jamek Pasir Pelangi.

The sultan was accompanied by the Tunku Mahkota of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, and other children. Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin; State Secretary Datuk Azmi Rohani and state executive councillors were also present. After the prayers, the sultan exchanged greetings with the worshippers.
In SABAH, Yang Dipertua Negri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin and his wife, Toh Puan Norlidah RM Jasni, performed the prayers with over 5,000 worshippers at the Kota Kinabalu State Mosque. Thousands of Muslims also performed prayers at Masjid Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu.
In SELANGOR, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah performed Aidiladha prayers with about 2,000 worshippers at Masjid Tengku Ampuan Jemaah in Bukit Jelutong.
The Sultan was accompanied by the Tengku Permaisuri, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin; Raja Muda Tengku Amir; the Mufti of Selangor, Datuk Mohd Tamyes Abd Wahid; Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and state executive councillors.
The Sultan and Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin also donated cows for the sacrificial slaughter.
In PAHANG, the Regent of Pahang Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah and his two sons, Tengku Muhammad Iskandar Ri'ayatuddin Shah and Tengku Ahmad Muadzam Shah joined about 2,000 worshippers for Aidiladha prayers at Masjid Tengku Ampuan Afzan, Indera Mahkota.
The mosque's Grand Imam Muhammad Amin Abdul Mutalib led the prayers while Pahang Mufti Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Osman gave the sermon.
In SARAWAK, Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg joined about 5,000 Muslims from around Kuching for Aidiladha prayers at Masjid Jamek Negri Sarawak, Petra Jaya here.
He then attended a Tahlil ceremony and visited the cemetery at the Kuching Division mosque.
In TERENGGANU, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin and Yang Di-Pertuan Muda Terengganu Tengku Muhammad Ismail performed their Aidiladha prayers at Masjid Al-Muktafi Billah Shah (Masjid Ladang), Kuala Terengganu.
They were accompanied by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman.
In PERAK, Sultan Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah joined about 1,000 worshippers for Aidiladha prayers at Masjid Sultan Azlan Shah in Ipoh.
He was accompanied by the Raja Muda of Perak, Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa and Raja Di-hilir Perak, Raja Iskandar Dzulkarnain Sultan Idris as well as Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi attended a sacrificial programme with members of the Ulu Kinta General Operations Force this afternoon.
Meanwhile, Rohingya Society in Malaysia, Ipoh chairman Mohd Hassan Miya Huson said the annual distribution of Qurban meat contributed by Yayasan Wakaf Turki or Turki Diyanet Vakfi was held at the association's office at 4pm today with the cooperation of the Malaysian Islamic Consultative Council (Mapim).
In KUALA LUMPUR, more than 12,000 worshippers including Muslim foreign visitors filled Masjid Negara for Aidiladha prayers.

Grand Imam Tan Sri Syaikh Ismail Muhammad in his sermon titled 'Ibrah dari Sirah' urged Muslims to emulate the trust and obedience shown by Prophet Ibrahim when he sincerely and fully yielded to Allah's demand.
In PUTRAJAYA, 135 head of cattle were slaughtered in conjunction with Aidiladha and Family Day for Putrajaya parliamentary constituency.
Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor who is also Putrajaya MP and his wife Datin Seri Anggraini Sentiyaki joined residents at the gotong royong to slaughter the sacrificial cattle.
In PENANG, Yang Dipertua Negri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas and his wife Toh Puan Majimor Shariff performed Aidiladha prayers at Masjid Negri in Jalan Air Itam.
