Richard Riot attends World Congress on Safety & Health at Work in Singapore

SINGAPORE: Minister of Human Resources, Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem is currently leading Malaysia's delegation to the four-day XXI World Congress on Safety and Health at Work, held in Marina Bay Sands, here, beginning today.
The Ministry of Human Resources said in a statement thet Richard received a personal invitation from his counterpart from Singapore, Lim Swee Say to attend the Congress.
During the Congress, Richard will make an intervention supporting ASEAN Labour Ministers' Joint Statement on Improving Occupational Safety and Health for Sustainable Economic Growth, said the Ministry.
The Minister will also be reflecting on Malaysia's Occupational Safety and Health Master Plan 2016-2020; active role played by Malaysia in implementing the ASEAN Occupational Safety and Health Network (ASEAN-OSHNET) Plan of Action 2016-2020; and ratification of Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 2006 (No.187) on June 7, 2012, it said.
During the visit, Richard is expected to hold several bilateral meetings with his counterparts to discuss issues of mutual concern and interest.

He will also be undertaking a visit to the Ministry for Manpower of the Republic and Workforce Singapore.
"The visit to Singapore will improve bilateral ties and enhance our strategic cooperation in the labour sector," said the Ministry.
The Congress is hosted by the Occupational Safety and Health Division, Ministry of Manpower, Singapore, in conjunction with the International Labour Organisation and the International Social Security Association.
The Congress which is hosted for the first time in South-east Asia, was started in 1996 in Madrid, Spain.
"It is a platform for Malaysia to engage in and emphasise on workplace safety that brings positive impact on working conditions, productivity, economic and social development," said the statement.

According to the Ministry, Singapore is also the present Chair of ASEAN-OSHNET.
It is expected for the first time all the ASEAN Labour Ministers will be gathered in this Congress and issue an ASEAN Labour Ministers' Joint Statement perpetuating a national preventative safety and health culture, improving their national safe-workplace performance systematically, and providing a health standard with appropriate enforcement to protect workers.
The Congress which opens its doors every three years is expected to adopt the ASEAN Labour Ministers' Joint Statement on Improving Occupational Safety and Health for Sustainable Economic Growth, said the Ministry.
With "A Global Vision of Prevention" motto, it is expected to draw over 4,000 participants from 100 countries.
It will cover three important topics such as: Vision Zero – From vision to reality, Healthy work – Healthy Life and People-centred prevention. — Bernama
