GEORGE TOWN: A woman was detained for verbally abusing a policeman who issued her a summons at the road going into the Penang International Airport area in Bayan Lepas here last night for a traffic offence.
In the incident at about 10pm, the 33-year-old woman was detained for using her handphone while driving her car.
Southwest District Police Chief Supt A. Anbalagan said the policeman stopped her car while she was driving and using the handphone, and informed her she had committed an offence.
"When she was handed the summons, she verbally abused the policeman.
"He advised her several times not to so as he was only performing his duty but she persisted on abusing him," Anbalagan said when contacted here today.
He added that the policeman had to detain her to help in the investigations for obstructing police duty. — Bernama
