KOTA TINGGI: A korban ceremony in Pengerang here turned tense this morning, when three cows ran loose, causing panic among those present.
The incident occurred about 10.30am when one of the cows fell into a 4m deep trench before an excavator was used to lift the animal out of the trench, about 30 minutes later.
Shortly after, two other cows attempted to escape, one of which went berserk and nearly injured a man and a child, leaving those attending the ceremony stunned.
Nevertheless, everything went well as the cows were "persuaded" to be calm before the sacrifice ritual continued.
A total of 21 cows were sacrificed in the programme which began at 8.30am at the Taman Bayu Damai Community Hall. The meat was distributed to the poor and needy.
Pengerang local authority chairman Bukhari Abd Rahman said the local community showed good cooperation.
Tanjung Surat assemblyman Datuk Syed Sis Syed Abd Rahman was also present at the event. — Bernama
