Special Branch director takes over as IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: Special Branch director Datuk Mohammad Fuzi Harun is the new Inspector-General of Police, succeeding Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.
The handover ceremony at the Police Training Centre, Jalan Semarak here today was witnessed by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim remains Deputy Inspector-General of Police.
Khalid, who joined the force in 1976 as an Inspector, will celebrate his 60th birthday tomorrow.
The media-friendly IGP had overseen a number of high-profile cases during his tenure, including the assassination of North Korean Kim Jong-Nam and the special task force into 1Malaysia Development Berhad.
Prior to his appointment as IGP on May 17, 2013, Khalid has held other key posts including deputy IGP, federal police director of Internal Security and Public Order, Selangor police chief and federal police CID deputy director.
Mohamad Fuzi becomes the 11th chief of the Royal Malaysia Police.
