JOHOR BARU: Several areas in this southern city and Kulai are experiencing water supply disruption since yesterday due to the stalled operation of the Semangar water treatment plant, near Kota Tinggi.
State Works, Rural and Regional Development Committee chairman, Datuk Hasni Mohammad said the treatment plant stopped operating at 4.20pm yesterday due to electricity supply disruption.
"The areas affected include Kempas, Tampoi, parts of Skudai, Iskandar Putri and Kulai district including Senai, all involving 126,171 Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) consumer accounts," he said.
Until this evening, the Semangar water treatment plant was still unable to operate due to the ongoing power supply disruption.
Hasni said the Kota Tinggi TNB had informed about a serious malfunction which caused the power supply disruption but no details were given.
To tackle the supply problem, he added, TNB had meanwhile sent two sets of generators, one of which was for the use of the treatment plant and the other for the domestic use of Kampung Semangar Dalam and its surrounding areas.
Hasni said repair works were going on to reinstall the power supply, and those affected by the water supply disruption could call the SAJ info centre at 1800 88 7474 or send SMS to 019-7727474 for more information. — Bernama
