2017 Pangkor dialogue to open on Sept 11

IPOH: The fourth Pangkor Dialogue 2017 (PD 2017) organised by Institut Darul Ridzuan (IDR) will be held over two days from Sept 11 at Hotel Casuarina @ Meru, here to discuss issues relating to socio-economic development and sustainability.
IDR chief executive officer Dr Mazalan Kamis said the international standard conference was expected to be attended by about 1,200 participants from various sectors, target groups including foreign leaders and academic thinkers.
He said PD 2017 themed "Making the Future: Innovative Pathways to Sustainable Development" also received the cooperation of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) with the participation of more than 30 countries including the United States, Saudi Arabia, Australia, India, Thailand, the Philippines, and Afghanistan.
"Pangkor Dialogue will discuss nine sub themes namely economy; human development; environment; innovation; entrepreneurship; housing; youths; aging and development; waqaf (endowment) and women," he said in a media conference at IDR here today.
He said PD 2017 this year was also targeting to explore various innovations and best solutions to achieve sustainable development as outlined in Agenda 2030 with focus on optimising sustainable development goals at sub national level for a more balanced progress.
"PD 2017 is a platform not only to share the success of other countries which have their unique excellence but also to share knowledge especially on what we need in line with the development of latest technology and innovations.
Mazalan said there would be many notable speakers at the conference including the United States woman astronaut Dr Catherine Cady Coleman, Oklahoma mayor Mick Cornett, Honey Network India founder Prof Dr Anil Gupta, former Ecuador president Jorje Jamil Mahuat Witt and Singapore paralympian Dr William Tan.
"Hope PD 2017 will contribute towards a clearer understanding of socio-economic analysis to strengthen state governments in Malaysia as well as at international level," he said, adding that online participation registration at www.pangkordialogue.com is still open.
The Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah will open PD 2017 next Monday, he said. — Bernama
