Encouraging eco-friendly habits and lifestyle

THE ExxonMobil Subsidiaries in Malaysia is contributing RM55,000 to the Department of Environment in support of the Sekolah Lestari Anugerah Alam Sekitar 2017/2018 (SLAAS) programme. The initiative aims to create awareness on sustainable, eco-friendly habits in students and to educate them through green activities to cultivate skills and best practices from a young age.

We have always maintained our corporate-wide commitment to responsibly managing our social and environmental impacts and believe that identifying and addressing the interests of communities where we operate is critical to maintaining a sustainable business," said Edward Graham, chairman of the ExxonMobil Subsidiaries in Malaysia at a cheque presentation ceremony held at Menara ExxonMobil.
"Our support for the SLAAS programme is part of our commitment towards reducing environmental risks. This initiative by the Department of Environment is well-aligned with our company's principles and we are proud to partner with them to help instil good environmental habits and best practices amongst students," he explained.
Present to receive the contribution was Director General of Department of Environment, Dato' Dr. Ahmad Kamarulnajuib bin Che Ibrahim.
ExxonMobil has supported various environmental programmes for communities globally and in Malaysia. These focus on several critical areas, including conservation in a range of ecosystems, environmental education and outreach, and scientific research of environmental issues of global importance.
The Sekolah Lestari-Environmental Award is a collaboration between Department of Environment (DOE), Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE), Ministry of Education (MOE) and Institute for Environment and Development (LESTARI), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
This programme was officially launched in January 2005.
The Sekolah Lestari concept is based on an integrated approach, which involves the school community as a whole, their families, local communities, government, private sector and non-governmental organisations.
This concept encompasses the integrated approach in four main components which are management, greening activities, co-curriculum and curriculum.
This programme encapsulates current and planned environmental activities such as the Eco-Youth Programme, RE & EE (Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency), Landscape and Beautification Programme, 3K Programme (Safety, Cleanliness and Beautification), Environmental Awareness Camp and other environmental activities.
