Rujhan Mustafa appointed EMGS new CEO

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Prof Dr Rujhan Mustafa has been appointed chief executive officer of Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS), a wholly owned company of the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) effective Sept 1.
EMGS is tasked with the global promotion of Education Malaysia and the provision of international student services.
According to EMGS statement today, Rujhan takes over the helm from inaugural CEO Mohd Yazid Abd Hamid who served from November 2012 to May 2017 along with a newly appointed member of EMGS' senior management team, Novie Tajuddin who was appointed chief operations officer effective June 2017.
Commenting on his new appointment, Rujhan aspired to work closely with different organisations related to international student placements to ensure that the allocated students had legitimate background and given necessary services, mainly visa applications and medical screenings.
"I look forward to strengthening cooperation with our key stakeholders – Immigration Department, Ministry of Home Affairs, Royal Malaysia Police, Ministry of Higher Education as regulators; in addition to higher education institutions, foreign embassies and consulates in Malaysia, as facilitators in our cause.
"Achieving target numbers of international students is one thing, providing a greater student experience is of equal priority," he said after meeting personnel from Immigration Department, Student Pass Unit in Cyberjaya today.
As of 30 June, a total of 137,617 international students have enrolled in public and private universities across Peninsular Malaysia.
Deputy senior director of Immigration Department Malaysia (Student Pass Unit) EMGS Cyberjaya, Zuhailah Jalani in welcoming the newly appointed CEO, hoped for better cooperation between EMGS and Immigration Department in providing admission of genuine international students to Malaysia.
"On behalf of EMGS Cyberjaya, we would like to thank Rujhan on his latest appointment as EMGS CEO and through strong cooperation between EMGS and Immigration Department, we hope that more legitimate students will come to Malaysia as a place for enhanced learning opportunity," said Zuhailah.
Rujhan has made visits to two distinguished universities during the first week of his tenure in EMGS; Limkokwing University of Creative Technology and Asia Pacific University.
Asia Pacific University executive director, Datuk Parmjit Singh described Rujhan as a highly dedicated person in his line of work, particularly in getting more international students to study in Malaysia.
"Rujhan has devoted much effort in achieving the goals of having more genuine international students to enrol in local universities nationwide and on behalf of Asia Pacific University, I would like to congratulate him for being appointed as the new CEO of EMGS," he said.
Limkokwing Corporate Government senior vice president, Datuk Gail Phung said EMGS has played a crucial role in admitting more international students to study in the university.
"With EMGS, our university will be provided with an increase in international students' admission and we hope to receive 250,000 international students by 2020," added Gail. — Bernama
