Currency transaction losses: Zeti, Nor Mohamed, Ainum give statements

PUTRAJAYA: The presence of three high-profile personalities including former Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz to give statements at the proceedings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry on losses from the Foreign Currency Transactions by Bank Negara Malaysia Around the 1990's became the centre of attention at the Palace of Justice, here today.
Besides Zeti, former Second Finance Minister Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop, who was also BNM Advisor from 1989 until April 1994, and former Attorney-General Tan Sri Ainum Mohamed Saaid were also present to give their statements at the proceedings.
Zeti arrived at the Palace of Justice at about 8.30am and always appeared to be smiling when her movements were recorded by the cameramen.
Ainum arrived about 15 minutes earlier than Zeti while Nor Mohamed arrived at about 10.20am.
The Royal Commission of Inquiry on the losses on foreign currency transactions was set up in line with the Commission of Inquiry Act 1950 (Act 119) where its establishment and memberships had received the consent of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V.
The six-member commission is chaired by Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) chairman Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan.
Other members of the Commission are High Court Judge Datuk Kamaludin Md Said; Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia Bhd Datuk Seri Tajuddin Atan; Joint Chairman of the Special Task Force To Facilitate Business Tan Sri Saw Choo Boon, Malaysian Institute of Accountants member K. Pushpanathan and Director of the Strategic Investment Division of the Finance Ministry Datuk Dr Yusof Ismail who is also secretary of the Commission of Inquiry. — Bernama
