DPM hands over contributions to poor in Jeli

JELI: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is on a one-day visit to Kelantan, handed over contributions to 23 tithe recipients in Kampung Wakaf Zin, Ayer Lanas here today.
The Deputy Prime Minister, who arrived at 5.10pm to visit the group of recipients, also spent more than half-an-hour with three people with chronic diseases, namely, Muhammad Hasan, 61, and Nik Esah Tuan Draman, 64, both of whom suffered from stroke, while Azizah Samad, 59, had a growth on the neck, believed to be cancer.
He also handed over RM200 each to 23 tithe recipients and the three ailing individuals, other than giving away helmets to 25 Umno Youth members from the Kedai Air Lanas polling district.
Also present were International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, who is also the MP for Jeli, and Superbikers Association Malaysia (SAM) president Datuk Abdul Halim Sulaiman.
Earlier, Ahmad Zahid had ridden a superbike for 20km from the Eleventh Mile, Border Regiment Camp in Tanah Merah to Kampung Wakaf Zin here, accompanied by 600 motorcyclists from SAM.
Meanwhile, Nik Esah, when met by reporters, said she was thankful to meet Ahmad Zahid as she had only seen him on television prior to this.
The mother of nine, who was bed-ridden after suffering from a stroke since 10 years ago, is being looked after by her husband, Junoh Saad, 70, and her seventh child, Halimatul Hazwa, 30.
"I recognised him (Ahmad Zahid) despite my poor eyesight. I could also recognise his voice when he talked to me," she said cheerfully.
Meanwhile, Muhammad said the last time he met Ahmad Zahid was about 10 years ago when attending a programme in the district.
"I have long aspired to meet him. My prayers to meet him was fulfilled today," said the father of 10 children who had a stroke four years ago.
This evening, the Deputy Prime Minister will attend a programme with new students of Universiti Malaysia Kelantan at the Jeli campus before attending a Leader With the People event at Jeli Town's "Dataran Makan-Makan", scheduled at 9pm. — Bernama
