BALING: The National Anti-Drugs Agency (Nada) detained eight drug addicts in a raid at a rubber estate in Kampung Pisang here today.
Its Baling chief officer, Arnida Ishak said the suspects, aged between 20 and 40, were picked in the district's latest hotspot for hardcore addicts during the two-hour raid which began at 6am.
"Investigation revealed that the rubber estate was a strategic area for the addicts due to the availability of secret passages which enabled them to escape during a raid," she said in a statement here.
Arnida said all the suspects, who were tested positive for opiate and methamphetamine, did not hold permanent jobs and collected recyclable items to purchase drugs.
They would be remanded at the Nada Kampung Selamat Remand Detention Centre to facilitate investigations under Section 3(1) of the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 before being charged in court, she added. — Bernama
