Suspected drug trafficker in Batu Pahat accident surrenders

JOHOR BARU: A suspected drug trafficker on the police "wanted list" in connection with the death of an elderly couple in a road accident in Batu Pahat last Monday, has surrendered to the police.
Batu Pahat police chief, ACP Abdul Wahib Musa said the 29-year-old man, whom the police suspect was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash, gave himself up at the Batu Pahat police headquarters about 1pm yesterday.
Upon inspection, the police found a plastic packet containing what was believed to be 0.20g of syabu, and the suspect's MyKad in his waist pouch, he said in a statement here today.
Abdul Wahib said the suspect, who also tested positive for methamphetamine was remanded for four days to facilitate investigations under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Last Monday, the suspect had escaped upon arriving at the Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital in Batu Pahat after the accident.
In the 7.15am crash, Wahadi Jamos, 62, and wife, Rokiah Jangi, 65, died on the spot when the motorcycle they were riding was hit by a car driven by the suspect at the 5km Jalan Bukit Pasir near Batu Pahat. — Bernama
