PETALING JAYA: She may not be real, but Japanese virtual singer Hatsune Miku is a global sensation with sold-out concerts all over the world.
The 16-year-old Japanese music sensation with a unique voice is holding a concert in Kuala Lumpur on Dec 16.
Miku, who has even teamed up with major stars like Lady Gaga and Pharrell Williams, has performed in Indonesia in 2014.
Her Malaysia concert will be her second stint in Southeast Asia.
However, she is a not a human but a virtual persona with a computer-generated voice and 3D graphics used to project her when performing on stage.
She is voiced by a singing synthesizer application developed by Crypton Future Media, and her voice is modelled after Japanese voice actress Saki Fujita.
Her name Hatsune Miku literally means "the first sound from the future".
With 2.5 million followers on Facebook, there is a great demand for her concerts overseas.
Her Miku Expo, a world tour, has so far taken her from Indonesia to Los Angeles, New York, and Shanghai, with a memorable TV stop at the David Letterman show.
Miku's concert in Kuala Lumpur will coincide with Malaysia's largest and longest-running anime and comic convention, Comic Fiesta.
