26 storm-stricken families in Baling receive assistance

BALING: A total of 200 residents from 26 families from five villages in the Teloi sub-district near here have received assistance from various agencies following a storm that hit the area yesterday.
Baling Social Welfare Department (JKM) officer Shamsul Izrin Isahak said the assistance – in the form of disaster kits, food, cash and daily necessities – were donated by the JKM, Baling District Office, Baling Member of Parliament's Office and the Kuala Ketil State Constituency Coordinating Office.
"The average losses incurred were between RM5,000 and RM10,000, and the (cash) assistance were given based on the damage to the houses," he told reporter here today.
In the 6pm incident, the storm ripped off the rooftop and walls of the 26 houses, namely in Kampung Caruk Beras Sayak (14 houses), Kampung Islam Kembai (3), Kampung Charuk Beras Ulu (5), Kampung Banggul Serdang (3) and Kampung Tembak (1).
However, no casualty was reported and most villagers were still living in their own homes. — Bernama
