'Art Truck Show Taiwan' comes to Penang

KUALA LUMPUR: Wish to experience first-hand some of the exceptional artistic endeavours and culture of Taiwan? If you have yet to travel to this haven of culture and arts, fret not, for you will have the opportunity to watch top-notch Taiwanese performances at the Penang City Hall and Juru AutoCity on Sept 22 and 23.
The General Association of Chinese Culture (GACC) of Taiwan have selected Penang as the destination for the programme, themed "Art Truck Shows Taiwan 2017".

Its deputy secretary-general Chang Tieh-chih said the show will feature some of Taiwan's notable performance groups.

"We will be bringing performers from all over Taiwan, including 'Chio-Tian Folks Drums and Art Troupe' that will showcase their stunning and solemn drum performance and deity puppetry, the 'Takao-Run Folks Folk Song and Arts Group' with their fusion of young generation street art with traditional folk songs, temple acts and parade culture, Enno Cheng - a renowned female singer and last but not least Hsieh Ming-Yo, this year's Golden Melody Award winner for best Taiwanese Male Singer who will be performing some exclusive Taiwanese folk songs," he said during a press conference today.

James Chang Chi-ping, representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia said the show will further enhance the relationship between Malaysia and Taiwan as the Art Truck has held some 133 spectacular performances across 105 townships and villages all over Taiwan, to more than 170,000 audiences.

"It is a moving castle of art, spreading the seeds of performance across the different corners of Taiwan. In other words, the truck is basically transporting Taiwanese culture to Malaysia," he said.

Asked if the truck will be making other stops in Malaysia, Chang said the truck will only be making its maiden stop in Penang but he is hoping that next year they would have the opportunity to make more stops.

"Admission is free so please come and witness first-hand the spectacular performance we have put in for you," he said.
