Malaysian Para cyclists injured in hit-and-run accident (Video)

KUALA LUMPUR: The national Paralympics cycling squad were dealt a huge blow after a four-wheel drive ploughed into them during their training session at the Latar Highway this morning.
Cyclist Nur Syafiq Suhaimy's chances of competing in the Asean Para games looks to be in tatters after he suffered a broken febula.
In the hit-and-run accident, national cycling coach Johari Nayan was training with his para cycling team consisting Mohd Nor Rizuan Zainal, 31, Khairul Azwan Wahab, 25, Nur Syafiq Suhaimy, 19, and Khairul Nizam Mohd Ali, 23 at around 10.50am this morning when the four-wheel drive unexpectedly rammed into them.
Kuala Selangor district police chief Supt Ruslan Abdullah said that other than the four athletes involved, Johari was also hit.
He said that the accident happened on Km12.6 of the Latar Highway (eastbound) near the Bandar Tasik Puteri exit.
"Investigators have been sent to scrutinise CCTV footage at the area to track down the driver," he said.
He said the four athletes and the escort had all suffered injuries and were rushed to the Sungai Buloh Hospital by ambulance.
He urged anyone with information about the incident or the driver that fled away to get in touch with the police immediately to help investigations.
Johari said that the three other riders were initially feared to have been severely injured, but have since been given the all-clear.
Nor Rizuan Zainal and Khairul Azwan Wahab had previously competed in the Paralympics at Rio de Janeiro last year and were the gold medal favourites for the individual time trial gold medal in the Asean Para Games, scheduled to begin in Kuala Lumpur next week.
Johari said that Syafiq and Khairul are definitely out of the games which allows the reserve tandem, piloted by former national track sprinter Faizal Mohd Noh and his blind stoker Aiman Ashraf Ahmad Bajuri to take the helm.
Johari was conducting a motorpacing session with the team when the incident occurred.
