MCMC looking into 'Fight of Gods' game that features Jesus, Buddha

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Communications And Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is looking into the controversial "Fight of Gods" video game seriously, and will come up with a decision soon.
Communications and Multimedia Deputy Minister Datuk Jailani Johari said the commission is working on the matter, after the game caused quite a stir among religious leaders and other gamers here, following its global release on Sept 4.
"MCMC is still working on this," he told theSun today.
theSun had today reported on its front page about the game that was released on Steam Early Access (a digital distribution platform offering unfinished, playable version of games) and is currently available here for only RM11.
The game, which was developed by Taiwanese gaming studio Digital Crafter, features among others, Jesus Christ and Gautama Buddha as fight characters.
They are the latest two characters that were added to the game's stable of fighters, which already featured the likes of Greek god Zeus, the Viking Odin, Guan Gong and Moses when it was first announced in March.
It is understood that the developers are planning to add more characters to its pantheon in the near future, and have asked fans for suggestions, with the Prophet Muhammad already favoured to be an addition.
Meanwhile, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of national unity Tan Sri Joseph Kurup said he was shocked to find the existence of such games available in the market.
He said the matter would be forwarded to the government's Committee to Promote Understanding and Harmony among Religious Adherents (JKMPKA) immediately to get its view.
Kurup also urged the public to make a police report on the game, while assuring that the government would look into the matter with urgency.
"This kind of games are not healthy as they can confuse and create tension in our society, especially among the young ones who may think it's okay to make fun of other religions," he said when contacted.
