Mida open day 2017 sets to attract over 5,000 participants

KUALA LUMPUR: In commemorating its 50th Anniversary, the principal investment promotion agency of the country, Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) will be holding an Open Day on 18 September 2017 to foster a better understanding of Mida's roles, facilities and contributions.
The one-day event will be officiated by YB Dato' Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Minister of International Trade & Industry.
Various interesting programmes that include a Career Fair and Open Interviews participated by 50 notable foreign and local companies, have been lined up.
This is expected to attract more than 5,000 participants including job seekers from tertiary institutions.
Other activities throughout the day include industry and business talks, industry exhibitions, business clinics and busking by in-house talents.
"A lot of Mida's efforts and contributions go unnoticed by the general public, and there is a common misperception that Mida is only for MNCs or foreign companies. In reality, Mida since day one has always been focused on ensuring the long term growth of Malaysia through developing the ecosystem and providing businesses for local companies and quality jobs to the people. As such, the Mida Open Day serves to create more awareness to the public that our facilities and services are not just to serve large foreign companies but local companies as well. Ultimately, we seek to create quality jobs and prosperity for the country," said YBhg. Dato' Azman Mahmud, Chief Executive Officer of Mida during a pre-event media conference held at the Mida HQ today.

The Career Fair segment is a valuable avenue for job seekers including final year students and those with work experience to explore job and internship opportunities from a range of employers.
Participating companies include notable players from the aerospace, chemical, machinery & equipment, electrical & electronics, transport, food & beverages, and logistic services/ e-commerce industries such as CTRM, Nadi Malaysia, Petronas Chemical, ViTrox, Infineon Technologies, Inari, Hotayi Electronics Malaysia, Coca-Cola, Nestle, Yakult, QSR Brands, GDex, Nationwide Express, and Lazada.
Over 7,000 vacancies are up for grabs in various positions including executive levels and above.
Job seekers are encouraged to be well-dressed and to bring along their updated resume as open interviews will also be conducted.

Other features of the Mida Open Day 2017 namely the Industry Talks and Exhibitions offers ample networking opportunities among a variety of industry players and the general public to be better informed on the latest development of Malaysia's main industries.
The featured topic, "The Internet of Things Effect – Opportunities and Challenges" will involve presentations by Intel, Infineon Technologies and ViTrox Technologies.
Meanwhile, the existing business community can take advantage of the Business Clinics held throughout the day to address any issues or challenges they may have with their investments or operations in Malaysia.
Participating agencies stand ready to assist them with any enquiries, namely Telekom Malaysia (TM), Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Department of Labour (JTK), Royal Malaysian Customs Department (Customs), Immigration Department of Malaysia, Department of Environment (DOE), Department of Occupational Safety and Health Malaysia (DOSH) and Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas).
TM and Customs will also be giving talks to the business community during the event.
In addition to Mida Open Day 2017, the agency has also held various other initiatives to celebrate its 50th Anniversary such as a series of regional and industrial Supply Chain conferences and public lectures.
Other events include the seminars to promote awareness and understanding of smart manufacturing and automation technologies in line with the country's focus on embracing Industry 4.0.
Over the years, the media has been a valuable medium to connect Mida with our stakeholders as well as the general public.
In recognising and appreciating our media partners, Mida has collaborated with the Malaysian Press Institute to organise the Mida Media Awards.
All Malaysian and non-Malaysian journalists be they retired or currently active are welcomed to submit their entries by 13 September 2017.
Winning entries are judged in three categories namely Print and Online News Portal (News and Feature); Electronic Media, TV Broadcasting and Video News Portal (News/ Documentary/ Feature); and Photography.
The award ceremony will take place at the Mida Gala Dinner on 30 September 2017.
