KOTA KINABALU: The national-level Malaysia Day celebration will be different this year.
Firstly, it will be held over three days from Sept 15, at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex.
Secondly, it will incorporate a Malaysia Day Carnival with concerts on each of the three days, by Astro (on the first night), RTM (on the second night), and TV3 (on the third night).
Thirdly, the celebration will be held in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.
These details were disclosed by Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, who is the joint chairman of the Malaysia Day Celebration Organising Committee, in the text speech delivered by the ministry permanent secretary Datu Rosmadi Datu Sulai at a session with the media in conjunction with Malaysia Day 2017.
Masidi said there would also be an exhibition on the use of digital technology by the people.
He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak would attend the Malaysia Day celebration on Sept 16 which carries the concept of "harmony and diversity" to spur the spirit of patriotism.
"Some 1,500 people will provide special performances in various segments at the highlight of the celebration beginning at 8pm on that day," he said.
Masidi said he expected about 30,000 people from all walks of life to attend the celebration.
"I hope the people will turn out in full force to appreciate and support the Malaysia Day activities that will serve as a platform to foster a sense of belonging among the multiracial community," he added. — Bernama
