KUALA LUMPUR: The opposition coalition is "sorely lacking" in many aspects of leadership and thus cannot govern the nation, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
He said the prerequisite for leading a sustainable country is by providing the rakyat with a sense of clarity when it comes to leadership, a crucial factor that was absent within the opposition.
"The opposition is sorely lacking in terms of clarity of their position, their sense of direction for the country, their policy and above all, their decision-making within the coalition is in almost total disarray.
"On fundamental issues, they seem to differ. How can that gain (the) confidence in terms of leading this nation?" he told a press conference after chairing the BN supreme council meeting at Menara Dato Onn here.
Parties in Pakatan Harapan are divided over the decision to negotiate with PAS, a former ally, in facing the upcoming general election.
On top of that, questions had been raised on who actually runs the federal opposition coalition as there is no clear distinction between the top three posts in Pakatan Harapan.
Najib said the decision reached by the BN coalition were always in unison, as opposed to the opposition that, according to him, was unable to come to an unanimous decision.
"The opposition has always come out with statements that contradict each other, up to the point that they don't even know the leader of their coalition," Najib said.
He added the opposition are also constantly changing their stand on various issues based on the situation.
"I am confident that the strength in BN will provide an image to the rakyat that we are a more viable and sustainable coalition to lead the country," he said.
