Yang di-Pertuan Agong performs friday prayers at Kampung Baru mosque

KUALA LUMPUR: The Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V today performed Friday prayers at the Kampung Baru Jamek Mosque, here.
The King, wearing a white robe and cap, was greeted on arrival by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, who also read the sermon for the Friday prayers.
When delivering the sermon entitled "Payung Negara" (Umbrella for the Nation) Jamil Khir reminded the people of their responsibility to the King to give their loyalty, respect and appreciation to the Royal institution and to instill love for the nation.
According to the special sermon in conjunction with the official birthday celebration for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong tomorrow, the royalty was like a 'tree branch' that protects the people by way of leadership, and preserving the welfare of the people.
"While the people are likened to the 'root' that is responsible for instilling loyalty to the Ruler and will ensure that no one will commit treason for as long as they (the Rulers) are loyal to Allah SWT and the Prophet and do not promote anything that promotes disobedience," according to the sermon.

The sermon explained that monarchy in the country that had taken roots more than six decades ago, had displayed the practice of moderation and had successfully united the people of different races.
In fact, according to the sermon, the practice of fairness to the people of various religions, cultures and languages had become part of the characteristics and image of the Malay Rulers.
In this regard too, the concern of the Rulers in matters pertaining to Islamic religion as the official national religion, national language, solidarity of the people, judicial independence, corruption and abuse of power, among others, came about out of the desire to ensure stability and peace in the country with the people enjoying prosperity.
In addition, the sermon also touched on relations between the ulama and the royal institution which must always be most cordial so that matters concerning the Islamic religion as the official national religion remain preserved.
With regard to current developments, Jamil Khir when reading the sermon also called for serious attention by the international community be given to the issue of oppression against the ethnic Rohingyas in Myanmar. — Bernama
