Three workers sustain 80% burns in warehouse fire

BUTTERWORTH: A warehouse in Bagan Ajam was destroyed in a fire early today, injuring three Myanmar nationals.
Butterworth Fire and Rescue Department chief Mohd Khalil Abdul Rahim said the department deployed a team of 28 firemen in two fire trucks and one water tanker from the Butterworth, Perai and Bandar Perda Fire and Rescue stations.
The firefighters arrive at the scene soon after getting the distress call at about 3.20am.
"The warehouse measuring about 20,000 square feet was 95% destroyed in the blaze", he said.
Khalil said when the team arrived, three workers were trapped in one of the rooms and could not escape from the intense fire during the incident.
Another two workers however managed to escape to safety .
Khalil added that the fire was completely controlled at about 5am.
The three workers suffered 80% burns and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The cause of the fire still being determined.
